Celebrate Freedom Weekend
Celebrate Freedom Weekend
We celebrated Juneteenth amplifying Black voices, listening to the amazing Alicia Keys/John Legend battle, and working together to update our community guidelines to reflect our values and commitment to making Silent Book Club an antiracist business.
Today, Saturday June 20, is the last day to buy books to help the #BlackoutBestsellerList campaign launched by Amistad Books. The New York Times bestseller list algorithm is a closely guarded secret, but weekly book sales are calculated from Sunday to Saturday, and they weigh heavily in the ranking. Sales figures are combined with individual reporting bookstores that function sort of like an electoral college of booksellers. If you haven't yet had a chance to support Black-owned bookstores, do it today! Here's a link to book recommendations and bookstores.
We also want to raise our voices in support of Pride Month and the LGBTQ community. On June 30th, we'll be hosting a virtual SBC with André Aciman, author of Call Me By Your Name and Find Me. We have invited equality advocate Matthew J. Yazzie to host the conversation, and we can't wait for their discussion. RSVP to reserve your spot, submit your reader questions, and enter to win a full collection of André's works—8 novels!—from Picador.
Stay safe, wear masks, see you soon,
