Happy National Book Lover's Day!
We hope you all have been enjoying a relaxing and rejuvenating summer of reading! There have been some big moments here at Silent Book Club. Our cofounder, Laura, got married (yay!) and moved from San Francisco to Denver, which is super sad for me but a huge win for the Denver chapter of SBC, which meets at BookBar (deets below). If you're a Rocky Mountains reader, swing by on Sunday and tell my book bestie that I miss her face.
This summer we also crossed a major milestone on Facebook: 25K readers! While there is so much wrong with social media (don't get us started on Twitter-induced rage spirals), it is always refreshing to read the book recommendations and kind-hearted conversations that SBC members post. Threads like this remind us why we love this group so much.
If you're on Instagram, check out our new addition of book reviews in our story highlights! We kicked off #sbcreads with back-to-back books set in prisons—The Mars Room and An American Marriage—it was an unintentional pairing that ended up being a fascinating study of the (in)justice system in America from the perspective of both men and women. A bit more intense than one might look for in a summer read, but I highly recommend the 1-2 punch. Especially for fans of Orange is the New Black and Sing Unburied Sing.
I hope you find time to read on this National Book Lover's Day, and if you're in SF, I'll see you at The Bindery on Sunday, 8/26 for a final summer read!
